BJP's Kalyan Choubey withdraws, clears way for Maniktala assembly bypoll
The Allahabad HC has decided to adjourn the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi case hearing related to the survey commission of Shahi Eidgah premises until January 11. Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, presiding over the case filed by Bhagwan Shrikrishna Virajman and seven others, issued the order.
The court had previously approved the appointment of an advocate-commissioner to supervise the survey of the mosque, claimed by petitioners to exhibit signs of being a Hindu temple. On December 18, the court was set to discuss the modalities and composition of the commission.
However, on Monday, the counsel of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board informed the court about filing a special leave petition (SLP) challenging the order permitting the survey. Due to the winter vacation closure of the Supreme Court, the court agreed to adjourn the hearing until January 9, coinciding with the likely listing of another petition challenging the transfer of suits on the Janmabhoomi matter before the apex court.
The adjournment was granted after considering the lack of an order from the Supreme Court to stay the execution of the survey order, and the court scheduled the next hearing for January 11, 2024.
